Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you offer Air Experience Flights?

A: Because of the age of the gliders and legal (CAA) rules on commercial flights we do not offer air experience flights for the public.

However if you join as a member of the ACHF then we can arrange for you to fly with one of our instructors (you just pay the Bristol & Gloucestershire Gliding Club for the launch & day BGGC membership). Total cost is similar to a Trial Flight in a modern glider. ACHF membership gives you a year so you could fly several times (so for example you could sample the T21 and T31) as we aim to operate every couple of weeks or so (obviously subject to weather, volunteers etc). We hope you will also participate in the other aspects of the ACHF. Have a look at the “Join Us” section where there is a download which covers ACHF membership.

Q: Can I come and see the gliders?

A: Our ultimate goal is to have a permanent heritage centre open to the public so we can educate & inform on the heritage of Air Cadet gliding. However we’re still in the fund raising stage for this, so it is some way off!

Meanwhile we aim to appear at selected public events and offer scheduled visits. We will post details on Facebook, or if you (or maybe you & a group of friends), want to arrange a hosted visit then contact us via this website.

There is no requirement to join ACHF to see the gliders, however if you’d like to support us with a donation or maybe join as an Associate then you would be most welcome!

Q: Can I learn to fly in your gliders?

A: Our goals are around the preservation of Air Cadet Heritage and the education and information of the public in that Heritage. We do not offer “ab-initio” pilot training, as that is a function undertaken by civilian gliding clubs (like the Bristol & Gloucestershire Gliding Club) or by the modern RAF Air Cadets,

Q: I run a local group – can you come and tell me about the ACHF?

A: We are happy to involve local groups, whether youth or adult groups. At this point we’re still building a formal programme, however If you have an interest in the Heritage of Air Cadet gliding then please contact us and we’ll see if we can arrange something mutually convenient.
