Community Connections

Our mission is to provide a living museum to preserve the heritage of the Air Training Corps, RAF Gliding Schools, Volunteer Gliding Schools and Squadrons. To achieve this we aim to restore, conserve, maintain and operate a collection of historic aircraft and associated equipment, as used by the RAF Air Training Corps in United Kingdom.

We aim to bring this heritage to the public and current and ex-members of the Air Cadet forces including the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (Training Branch) and associated structures including the Volunteer Gliding Squadrons and Gliding Schools.

This page lists some of the activities that we have previously undertaken (some under the guise of 621 VGS Historic Flight).

Royal International Air Tattoo

We were asked to take part in the flying display at the Royal International Air Tattoo in July 2011.  The 621 VGS-HF team flew the T21, T31, Prefect and Swallow as part of a formation that also included a Venture, Vigilant, Viking, Tiger Moth, Chipmunk, Bulldog and Tutor showing off Air Training Gliders old and new.

Visitors & Friends

The Historic Flight hosts visits from active Volunteer Gliding Squadrons, as well individuals with past involvement in the Air Cadet movement. We have had visitors from 618 VGS, 637 VGS, 615 VGS as well as our original hosts 621 VGS.

We also introduce pilots and guests from non-ATC backgrounds to the pleasures of vintage flying!

75th Anniversary of the Air Cadets

In July 2016 the Historic Flight provided a static glider display for the 75th anniversary of the Air Cadets, again at Fairford RIAT. The restored Segburgh won the trophy for the best civilian aircraft at the show – a pretty special achievement!

621 VGS Disbandment Dinner

In October 2024 621 VGS held a dinner to mark their disbandment at the Helicopter Museum in Weston Super Mare (original base of 621 VGS). the ACHF provided a static glider display for the many past members of the VGS as they bid farewell as 621 and 637 VGS were disbanded. Flying for both VGS continues at Little Rissington under 612 VGS identity.
